Prayer prayer notes 4/25/23
Good morning brother,
Day one topic: Lust/ Counterpart virtue: love, unselfishness
Lust is a strong passion or longing, especially for sexual desires.
The Bible speaks about lust in 2 Timothy 2:22, “Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love [and] peace...”
The Bible also mentions lust in the following verses: Job 31:1, Matthew 5:28, Philippians 4:8, James 1:14-15, 1 Peter 2:11 and 1 John 2:16.
Chastity or self-control cures lust by controlling passion and leveraging that energy for the good of others.
I want to be sensitive with those of us here that suffer with sexual sin. There no condemnation. As men the enemy wants us weak. To give our strength to every woman and everything and not live for God.
Lust leads and connects to others sins.
Lust starts as a thought and temptation. An opportunity to act on that thought.
Sin and lusts tries to remove Holy Spirit from our heart.
The desire for lust is powerful. You were mean to pursue God passionately not your flesh.
Enemy likes to attack you with sin and lust at an earlier age.
By living out godly characteristics and growing in the fruit of the Spirit, Christians can combat the seven deadly sins in their lives.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
The remedy for lust is love. Chastity and pure virgin heart. Unspotted from the world.
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.”
Colossians 3:5
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Galatians 5:16
It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality;”
1 Thessalonians 4:3
I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.”
Job 31:1
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5
Death and Destruction are never satisfied, and neither are human eyes.” Proverbs 27:20
But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. Psalms 3:3
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3
We love because he first loved us.”
1 John 4:19
For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. 1 Peter 3:10
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.”
Psalms 1:1-6
Most words in the Bible that are translated “lust” mean “a passionate desire.” Strong desire can be either good or bad, depending upon the object of that desire and the motive behind it. God created the human heart with the capacity for passionate desire so that we would long after Him and His righteousness (Psalm 42:1–2; 73:25). However, the concept of “lust” is now usually associated with a passionate desire for something God has forbidden, and the word is seen as synonymous with sexual or materialistic desire.
James 1:14–15 gives us the natural progression of unrestrained lust: “Each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”
Paul says each person should be in charge of their own body.
But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. (1 Cor. 9:27)
The best way to use our bodies rightly is to use them for Christ.
Sow generously and you will reap.
Lust begins as a seed, a thought packed with wrong desire. If we allow the seeds of lust to germinate, they will sprout into something bigger, more powerful, more difficult to uproot. Temptation becomes sin when it is allowed to germinate. Desire takes on a life of its own and becomes lust. Jesus made it clear that lust is sin, even if we do not physically act on it.
No one is immune from lust. Even the greatest of men among us.
We need to be taught by Holy Spirit to love again without lust.
Eve deceived and cunning. By a look. You can be deceived by a look. To long a look, to long in thought, put a knife at your throat. Look beyond the outward appearance and learn to look at the heart. Lust is the flesh love is the Spirit.
Be careful little eyes what you see.
Your love is better than all these things.
Have a treasure chest of the LORDs love for you. Remember all the blessings of the LORDs love and grace.
The enemy likes to take the innocence of you and cause to live in sin and shame.
Do not confuse sex with love. Sex is a by product. But love needs to be agape love.
Lust has as its focus gratifying oneself, and it often leads to toxic actions to fulfill one’s desires with no consideration to the consequences. Lust springs forth from selfishness and greed.
And I would do anything for love but I won’t do that.
Love lasts because it is an active choice, but lust does not last. It can quickly vanish away because the only concern with lust is sexual encounters. Lust will leave you feeling guilty, yet love will leave you feeling cared about, known, and cherished.
The enemy says look but don’t touch. Taste but don’t swallow. Dwell in thoughts and don’t worry about actions.
The only reason I have victory because I love the LORD so much.
“My son, pay attention to my wisdom, turn your ear to my words of insight, that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge. For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave. She gives no thought to the way of life; her paths wander aimlessly, but she does not know it.”
Proverbs 5:1-6 NIV
A Salvation Army
A Salvation Army lass stopped a noted clergyman on the street.
“Sir,” she challenged, “Are you saved?” His reply caught her off guard.
“Indeed I am, sometimes, but not yet!” She couldn’t let that go by.
“What kind of answer is that?” She retorted.
“Well, if you mean am I saved from the guilt of sin, indeed I am. If you mean am I saved from the power of sin, I can only say, sometimes. If you mean am I saved from the presence of sin, then definitely not!”
It is only knowing Jesus and having him in our hearts that we can face the daily attacks from sin coming against us.
Shame is a tool of the enemy. It comes from sin and death.
Paul says each person should be in charge of their own body.
But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. (1 Cor. 9:27)
The best way to use our bodies rightly is to use them for Christ.
