Oh To Be Wise Meditations

Invest in truth and wisdom, discipline and good sense, and don't part with them. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the redemption of his soul is costly, and never can payment suffice, so that they should live on forever and not see decay. Those who are wise must finally die, just like the foolish and senseless, leaving all their wealth behind. The grave is their eternal home, where they will stay forever. They may name their estates after themselves, but their fame will not last. They will die, just like animals. This is the way of those who are foolish, And of those after them who approve their words. Wisdom is supreme; so acquire wisdom. And whatever you may acquire, gain understanding. How much better to acquire wisdom than gold! To gain understanding is more desirable than silver. For wisdom, like money, is a shelter, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of its owner. Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.
