Oh To Be Wise Meditations
The LORD judges on the basis of motives and not just what we do but why. Man looks at the outer appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. He unmasks not only those who fool others but also those who fool themselves. He brings the crucible and the furnace to purify the gold and silver of our faith. Through extreme heat, the heat of our difficulties and circumstances to reveal the true condition of our soul. The test will be hard but it is for our good. Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.
