Oh To Be Wise Meditations
Breathing hard. You breathe harder because your body's need for oxygen increases with exertion. Heavy breathing when you're not moving is a sign that your body has to work harder to get enough oxygen. This may be because less air is getting in through your nose and mouth, or too little oxygen is making its way into your bloodstream. There are many factors that cause you to be winded and breathing hard. The better our air flow the stronger we are when dealing with high intense exertion. Same with our spiritual life. Many of us are winded by many things and give up on something maybe God wants us to pursue. We need to be spiritually disciplined so that we can run this race and not grow constantly weary. If you faint in the day of distress, how small is your strength! Listen to Jeremiah speaking with God: You are always righteous, LORD, when I bring a case before you. Yet I would speak with you about your justice: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease? You have planted them, and they have taken root; they grow and bear fruit. You are always on their lips but far from their hearts. Yet you know me, LORD; you see me and test my thoughts about you. Drag them off like sheep to be butchered! Set them apart for the day of slaughter! How long will the land lie parched and the grass in every field be withered? Because those who live in it are wicked, the animals and birds have perished. Moreover, the people are saying, “He will not see what happens to us.” The LORD rebukes Jeremiah for his impatience, saying “If you have raced with men on foot and they have tired you out, Then how can you compete with horses? If you fall down in a land of peace where you feel secure, Then how will you do among the lions in the flooded thicket beside the Jordan? Consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hear Jesus say: I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yes, the best thing we can do to keep breathing in strongly spirit and life is to not abandoned your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. Work hard from there and you will grow within you an endurance that will stand the test of our time.
