Oh To Be Wise Meditations
The sound of freedom. I hear the sound of freedom as chains fall onto the ground. Rattling and shaking prison doors being open. And the sunlight of heaven brightening dim and darkened eyes saying I am free! There are so many living in prison for the consequences of their sins. Not just in physical bars but in the prison of their minds. Being taken captive is a very humbling and excruciating experience. It is an acceptance of bondage and loss of your freewill, innocent or not. But let us tell of the wonders of God! How He can set the prisoner free both in body and spirit. On the Cross Jesus poured out his blood for payment of our sins against God and each other. Hear the sound of freedom as nails are being pounded into the hands and feet of Christ. With each pounding the chains of sin and death are being released off of humanity. The Spirit of the LORD is upon Jesus and He released freedom to all as He was resurrected from the dead and now seated by the Right Hand of the Father. That same Spirit that rose Jesus from the dead is the same Spirit that lives in us keeping us free from sin and bondage. So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. Daily let us even enjoy the sound of freedom as we share the Gospel of the Kingdom with everyone we meet. What a joy to hear the burdened soul praise God for his freedom! On this Independence Day, I want us to remember those suffering in prison and the gift of independence we have in Christ. No longer do we have to trust in ourselves or the ways of this world. We can depend on Jesus for our freedom and live in the forgiveness He has provided for us. Meditate this as I close: Starting in Psalm 105:15 “Do not touch my chosen people, and do not hurt my prophets.” He called for a famine on the land of Canaan, cutting off its food supply. Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them— Joseph, who was sold as a slave. They bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar. Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the LORD tested Joseph’s character. Then Pharaoh sent for him and set him free; the ruler of the nation opened his prison door. Joseph was put in charge of all the king’s household; he became ruler over all the king’s possessions. He could instruct the king’s aides as he pleased and teach the king’s advisers. Amen. I can imagine Joseph as he hears the pain of chains on his shoulders. Sold as a slave by his brothers and taken as a prisoner into Egypt. God was still in full in control in the midst of evil and suffering being done. For those in physical and spiritual prisons. The LORD will never forsake you or leave you. Like Joseph He will see you through your suffering and bring you to freedom on the other side. Take time to hear the sound of freedom today. The Liberty Bell of America echoes through the halls of government and out into the heartlands and valleys of our great nation. The same with the liberty bell of Heaven. Let us walk out the freedom that Jesus has given us in the Gospel. From reading the Word daily to proclaiming freedom to those who are in darkness.
