Oh To Be Wise Meditations
Obedience is better than sacrifice. Your rituals, your words, your intentions mean nothing without obedience. Its so easy to do something half way or three quarters of the way. Then to ask God to bless it would compromise Him. He wants total obedience or no obedience. The false gods of this world will take your crumb efforts and steal your life from you in the process. The LORD wants to protect with sound wisdom and advice. Lip service does nothing for you or God. Look at 1 Sam. 15:22 But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.” Think disobedience as rebellion and how your heart and mind can turn you as an enemy of God. You start to challenge everything God says and you start living under a curse rather than the blessing God has for you. Meditate on this story in Scripture starting in Matt 9:10 as I close: While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
