Proverbs of a 38 yr old man
It is a rule in all relationships, either with God or with people, that confession strengthens the bond of friendship and trust. We instinctively try to hide or cover our sins, but unconfessed sin brings misery. When we choose to acknowledge the wrong we have done and renounce it, we will always find mercy with God and usually from people as well. Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Hatred for each other will stir up quarrels, but love makes up for all offenses. You will keep your friends if you forgive them, but you will lose your friends if you keep talking about what they did wrong.
