Proverbs of a 38 yr old man
God sees through the sham sacrifice. Through the hypocrite who pretends to worship him but nurtures evil in their hearts. Even a physical sacrifice is not enough to win God's favor. The sacrifice He desires is a broken spirit. He will not reject a broken and repentant heart. There is no substitute for the loyal heart that chooses to do what is right and just. People have gone through rituals for centuries, appearing to worship God. But he knows whether we are coming to him with a loyal heart or just going through the motions of respectable religion. Oh that you would see how much the LORD cares about one's heart. The person with an upright heart, a simple prayer is enough to please him. But God hates wickedness and he distances himself from evil people. He stays so far away that he will not hear their prayers. But he comes near to the righteous, yes near enough to hear and answer even their whispered prayer. You, LORD God, have done many wonderful things, and you have planned marvelous things for us. No one is like you! I would never be able to tell all you have done. Sacrifices and offerings are not what please you; gifts and payment for sin are not what you demand. You would rather for me to be faithful and to truly know you than to offer sacrifices. Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. Bring your confessions, and return to the LORD. Say to him, “Forgive all our sins and graciously receive us, for we will offer the sacrifices of our praises.
