Proverbs of a 39 yr old man
Slave to sin. I once was a slave to sin and its desires. But now I put up a fight to resist temptation and the power of evil working within. I had no strength before Christ in my life to fight off guilt and shame. Sin became a vice and me its instrument to do all kinds of evil. In chains and bondage did my heart live, always expecting the worse with a fearful expectation of judgment. As a slave to sin you have nothing that pleases you. You are always restless wanting a peace that never finds you. A slave to evil desires that you cannot control, bearing a fruit of destruction and death and sorrow. This worldly sorrow is the worse. It is the nakedness that Adam and Eve felt when God walked into the garden after they bit the fruit. When people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. Everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. Do not put up anymore with besetting sin that enslaves you, takes everything you have, takes advantage of you, takes control of everything, and slaps you in the face with shame. For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. Christ has set us free! This means we are really free. Now hold on to your freedom and don't ever become slaves of the law of sin and death again. Be a slave to the law of Spirit and life and you will see the fruit of Spirit bountiful in your heart and life.
