Proverbs of a 39 yr old man

A common god. The people of Israel went after many strange gods. There hearts were enticed away to the point where in the very temple of God they brought other statues and gods. And with each new god new and horrific abominations to follow. Moloch, was a god they started sacrificing there own children to. How did they get this far away from the true living God Yahweh? It starts in the heart with a common god. A god you can manipulate and play with, like a like rabbits foot or an eight ball telling you your future. For Israel it started out with Baal a common god amongst the people especially in Gideon's time. The people of Israel had him everywhere as a sign of fertility and prosperity. But that opened them up to so many other gods and wicked practices. In Gideon's time God called him to pull down his father’s altar to Baal, and cut down the Asherah pole standing beside it. Then build an altar to the LORD on this hilltop sanctuary, laying the stones carefully. Sacrifice the bull as a burnt offering on the altar, using as fuel the wood of the Asherah pole you cut down. How quickly these little things we seek outside of Gods provision turn our hearts and destroy us. Our hearts become like the temple of Israel filled with all kinds of evil spirits moving us away from Holy Spirit. Stay away from common gods that seem harmless. In our day and age horoscopes, stones, and divination seem harmless like the movies make it out to be. But little by little your heart is being pulled away from the one true God, Jesus our LORD. Our bodies are a temple, and we are living sacrifices. Keep away strange fires and desires from your heart and mind. And strive to be holy like our Heavenly Father is holy. Staying in close relationship with Jesus is the only way to stay undefiled from the spirit of this age and this world. The Spirit of Christ should be the only fire burning daily deep within our soul!
