Proverbs of a 39 yr old man
Wonderful Counselor. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor. Christ’s position as our Wonderful Counselor means we can trust Him to listen to our problems and guide us in the right direction. We are able to receive holy council because we have the Mind of Christ. For, “Who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ. We have the indwelling Holy Spirit living in us, keeping us connect to the True Vine Jesus Himself. Because of the power of the Gospel we do not have to lean on our own understanding. We can seek Gods will in everything we do, and he will show us which path to take. Teaching us not to be wise in our own eyes; but to fear the LORD and shun evil. Counsel and sound judgment are the LORD's; He has insight and has power. By Him kings reign and rulers issue decrees that are just; by Him princes govern, and nobles, all who rule on earth. What he tears down cannot be rebuilt; those he imprisons cannot be released. If he holds back the waters, there is drought; if he lets them loose, they devastate the land. Yes, strength and wisdom are his; deceivers and deceived are both in his power. He leads counselors away, stripped of good judgment; wise judges become fools. He removes the royal robe of kings. They are led away with ropes around their waist. He leads priests away, stripped of status; he overthrows those with long years in power. He silences the trusted adviser and removes the insight of the elders. He pours disgrace upon princes and disarms the strong. He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings utter darkness into the light. He makes nations great, and destroys them; he enlarges nations, and disperses them. He strips kings of understanding and leaves them wandering in a pathless wasteland. They grope in the darkness without a light. He makes them stagger like drunkards. Praise God! Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor.
Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety. We have the Living Word, The Spirit of Christ, and the Body of Christ. Yes, have an abundance of counsel to build our life and faith upon! For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the LORD. Hear our Wonderful Counselor say: I am the LORD All-Powerful. Do not depend on your own power or strength, but on my Spirit.
