Proverbs of a 39 yr old man
LORD, let this baby live! Nathan the prophet of God had just went home after delivering the devastating judgment against David and Bathsheba. Listen in to Scripture with me: Then Nathan went home. And the Lord caused the baby boy who was born to David and Uriah’s wife to become very sick. David prayed to God for the baby. David refused to eat or drink. He went into his house and stayed there and lay on the ground all night.
The leaders of David’s family came and tried to pull David up from the ground, but he refused to get up. He refused to eat with these leaders. Amen. Oh God, even if it is the fault of our own doing and deserve the consequences of sin. LORD still have mercy and compassion on me please and forgive me! There will be times where we will cry out to God to let the baby live! Let the innocent live! But justice and injustice takes it away. Esau cried with tears of sorrow after he sold his birthright for a single meal sold. It was too late for repentance. Sin always leads to death. That is why Jesus went to Cross to settle all debts we could never repay and live a holy life we could never live for God on our own. Yes, God innocent on the Cross said I will endure to the end, and He calls us to endure with Him. He has overcome the world so we can overcome as well. We are called to continue in the faith, reminding ourselves that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God. Jesus is our strength and confidence over guilt and shame. He will make our spirit and flesh willing for his glory.
The promise of prayer is we will be with Him in paradise soon. The Holy Spirit in us is the guarantee of that. Through the Spirit of Christ we can endure our cross as well as this broken world. Romans 8:28 says, And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. The Apostle Paul claimed that very promise many times before he even penned his letter to the Romans. As one of Gods pilgrims passing through this world he knew what it was to suffer hardship, persecution, indifference, betrayal, shipwreck, nakedness, destitution, sleeplessness, and immense pressure. It was his utter confidence in God who promises to sustain us. So that at the end of his life he could say, 2 Tim 2:12 That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day. King David like Paul said he would one day go to be with his baby, he entrusted his baby with God. David said, “While the baby was still living, I cried and refused to eat because I thought, ‘Who knows? Maybe the Lord will feel sorry for me and let the baby live. But now the baby is dead, so why should I refuse to eat? Can I bring the baby back to life? No. Some day I will go to him, but he cannot come back to me. So you see, God chooses to show mercy to some, and he chooses to harden the hearts of others so they refuse to listen. Perhaps the LORD will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few. He has mercy on whom He will have mercy, and He will have compassion on whom He will have compassion. Like David let us wash up, take our filthy rags off and put on the clothes of Righteousness. Then go to the house of the LORD and worship. He is always worthy even as we face the consequences of our actions.
