Proverbs of a 40 yr. old man
Do the things that are right and fair! This matters more to God than any gift. What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. Two men, called Cain and Abel, gave gifts to God. God did not accept Cain’s gift, so Cain was angry. God warned Cain, ‘Do the things that are right! Then I will accept you. But if you do wrong things, then your evil attitudes will control you. Cain did not obey God’s advice. Instead, Cain killed Abel. My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise. The LORD is near to the heartbroken and He saves those who are crushed in spirit, yes contrite in heart and truly sorry for their sin. Should we offer him thousands of rams and ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Should we sacrifice our firstborn children to pay for our sins? No, the LORD Jesus has made payment in full for our sins on the Cross. He is spotless Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. His Life poured out for us is the ten thousand rivers of oil poured into us for abundant living and eternal life! For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. That whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world. But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life. But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised as the first of the harvest; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when he comes back. Amen. Now there is one gift that is connected to your heart that you can offer to God as a living sacrifice. You are to offer your body as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God because of all he has done for you. A living and holy sacrifice is the kind The LORD will find acceptable. Jesus died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Him, who died and was raised for them. This is truly the way to worship him, your reasonable service, and your spiritual service of worship. So, do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. Use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. We are ruled by Christ's love for us. We are certain that if one person died for everyone else, then all of us have died.
