Proverbs of a 40 yr old man
So many things make a man poor and a man rich. O God, I beg two favors from you; let me have them before I die. First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the LORD?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. What makes a person poor? Greedy people try to get rich quick but don’t realize they’re headed for poverty. Drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags. Those who love pleasure become poor; those who love wine and luxury will never be rich. Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored. If you love sleep, you will end in poverty. Keep your eyes open, and there will be plenty to eat!
What makes a man rich? Being filled with the Spirit of Christ makes a person rich beyond the measures of this physical world. With the LORD Jesus are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity.
Amen. The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor. Work hard, and you will have a lot of food; waste time, and you will have a lot of trouble. Trouble chases sinners, while blessings reward the righteous. People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. Godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity.
