Proverbs of a 40 yr. old man
The open wound. There are types of open wounds that we deal with in our hearts and minds. An abrasion occurs when something rubs roughly against the skin of our hearts damaging how we view ourselves on the surface. Maybe a time where our names were dragged in the mud, and we were spoken badly of. If not healed, we hide ourselves from others because of what has been associated with us either right or wrong. Then there is a laceration that is a cut, commonly from a sharp object. Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing. Like a club or a sword or a sharp arrow is one who gives false testimony against a neighbor. It can also occur when blunt force splits the skin. Words can deep if we let them, we must refuse offense and be wise with criticism. God's word is a two-edge sword, and it keeps deep as well dividing soul and spirit. Thats an avulsion which occurs when a portion of the skin, and sometimes the underlying tissue, is partially or completely torn away. We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Yes, even today when they read Moses’ writings, their hearts are covered with that veil, and they do not understand. But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. The difference when God wounds, He binds and promotes healing not willing that any should perish. An open and exposed wound can become septic if we don't care for our heart. The last open is the puncture wound. It occurs when an object, such as a nail, animal’s tooth or gunshot, pierces the skin. Puncture wounds may not bleed much unless a blood vessel has been injured but may also cause life-threatening bleeding. There are things that punctures us deep and cause great shame and guilt. The world is struggles with the sorrow it produces from sin and shame. Without a cover for such a traumatic wound, the blood of our sins destroys us. If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Jesus himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. By canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. For though he wounds, he also bandages. He strikes, but his hands also heal.
