Proverbs of a 41 yr old man
Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters;
and you who have no money, come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you. Isaiah 55:1-3. The New Covenant is the promise that God will forgive sin and restore fellowship with those whose hearts are turned toward Him. Jesus Christ is the mediator of the New Covenant, and His death on the cross is the basis of the promise. Adam and Eve ate from the tree of life to know Him and have relationship with God. Meeting at the cool of the day in perfection and peace. They sadly choose to eat from the knowledge of good and evil desiring to be like God instead of knowing Him as sustenance. Now in sin as humanity has been destroyed by the knowledge of good and evil. We each have a choice to know God in a deeper way then Adam and Eve. To know Him through suffering and obedience. There are so many pleasures of this world, so many we can count. We are free to eat from any tree of this world but we will choose to eat from the tree of obedience and suffering. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. Christ in us the hope of glory. He is our hope deferred bearing in us and eternal fruit we can eat from forever in his presence. He is our food, our manna from heaven to us. In this life the curse of Adam is real and desires of this world will pass away. We will work hard and the ground will be difficult for us to produce real sustenance and life. We can have plenty of this world and have barns filled with pleasure and earthly things. But it will never satisfy that God given void given to Adam and Eve and to the Devil Himself. You need God more than your oxygen, food, water, shelter, sunlight and sleep. All these things He gives freely to the good and the bad in this world. The gentiles chase after all these things. But no so for the Christian. We live and move and have our being from the true Vine of Christ. We are his branches, and in suffering to know Jesus we receive a fruit that will last. That will sustain us through this life and into the next. Rev 3:20 says Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. Jesus has spiritual food for us brothers and sisters more than the physical food we can get and hoard in this world. We have food in Christ we can store in Heaven and it's real true eternal life. The life Adam and Eve so richly wanted and were deceived by the Enemy of our souls. Choose to eat from Jesus hands today and not from the crumbs of this world. He is the Word became flesh so we can eat from his flesh and drink from his blood.
