The Cross is the peace sign on Earth from God to man. In this world the peace sign takes many forms. Symbols like Ying Yang, Lotus, and Tree of life. The most common symbol we know is the hand peace sign that was countercultural during the Vietnam War in the 1960's. Also known as the Victory Hand, you make the peace sign with your pointer and middle finger in the shape of a V. It has always been a universal symbol of peace and love. God uses symbols as well, one in particular is a rainbow in the sky promising to never flood the whole Earth again. But think about the Cross of Christ and what that means for us. Galatians 3:13 says, But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith. Amen. Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory Romans 5:1-2. Jesus was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the chastisement that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. The chastisement refers to punishment that leads to peace. Jesus took the punishment for our sins so that we could be healed and have peace with God. Next time you see a symbol of the Cross let it remind you that you have peace with God because of the shed blood of Christ. Let's keep our eyes on Jesus, founder and perfecter of our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Amen. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Cross is the true Victory Hand of Peace. You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.
