Proverbs of a 41 yr. old man

Updated: 1 day ago

Changing Seasons, Changing Treatments series. This is the time of year in the Spring season where we must deal with new growth of weeds. I want to talk about crabgrass today, and as the LORD leads go over some different weeds that may springing up not just in our lawns but in hearts and lives. Seasons of life change for us, and we must in Christ daily seeking his wisdom for our lives here on Earth. The enemy of our souls wants to sift us like wheat, how much more does he want weeds growing in the garden of our hearts. So, crabgrass is a type of weed. It is most obvious by its pincer-like or finger-like seed heads that extend above your lawn or garden plants. The grassy leaves grow closely to the ground and can spread to cover garden soil or overwhelm surrounding turfgrass. You’ll likely first notice crabgrass once spring temperatures begin to turn hot. Seed heads can develop between mowings, so you need to deal with the weed as soon as possible to avoid spreading new seeds. Crabgrass becomes more problematic in the summer because these weeds thrive in hot, dry weather. It is drought tolerant and is often the last green thing on the lawn before a late fall frost finally kills its stems. This makes me think of Scripture starting in James 1:13 to verse 16. When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Amen. Seed heads of temptation start showing up in our hearts and minds in between the days of our lives. When our trials in life start to heat up so does temptation, spreading new seeds of doubt and ignorance in us. Like crabgrass, the long stems of sin and death start to cover the garden soil of our hearts overwhelming our heart for God. We must care and tend to the seed heads of temptation and not let it sprout bigger spreading into every area of our lives. Crabgrass is like besetting sins in our lives. Habitual sin will survive throughout seasons choking the very life out of you. To get rid of crabgrass, you need to break its life cycle. Do something, at least one change through the power of Jesus. Get to the root of it and pull it out completely. And don't just spray over it a herbicide, get on your hands and knees in prayer and submit to Christ's pulling and pruning. Meditate this Scripture as I close, let Holy Spirit speak: I walked by the field of a lazy person, the vineyard of one with no common sense. I saw that it was overgrown with thorns. It was covered with weeds, and its walls were broken down. Prov. 24:30-31

I said, ‘Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the LORD, that he may come and shower righteousness upon you.’ Hosea 10:12
